Hi, I’m Anton (AKA Happy Zaffy).
I used to work on a cruise liner, the South Africans were generally known as Zaffies or Zaffas because the diplomatic code on a South African passport is ZAF. I was usually smiling and tried to be polite and friendly to everyone so the other crewmembers started calling me the Happy Zaffy.
I’ve always been the person who wants to know what’s around the next corner, what that side street smells like, what the locals actually eat for breakfast, what happens if you take the slower road.
HappyZaffy started as a way to remember those moments. It grew into something I genuinely love, a place to share the trips I’ve taken, the food that’s stopped me in my tracks, and the interesting things I’ve stumbled across that don’t always make it into guidebooks.
What you’ll find here
- Travel, destination guides, honest trip recaps, and the stuff no one tells you before you go
- Food, restaurants, street food, recipes, and the meals I still think about years later
- Interesting things, hidden gems, offbeat spots, cultural curiosities, and small discoveries worth talking about
No perfectly curated aesthetics. No sponsored fluff. Just real experiences, written the way I’d tell a friend.
Who this is for
If you love to travel (or love thinking about travelling), enjoy good food, and appreciate a story told with a bit of personality, you’ll feel at home here.
Whether you’re planning a specific trip or just browsing for inspiration, I hope something on HappyZaffy makes your day a little more interesting.
